4th Workshop in Information and Human Language Technology

TIL'2006

Welcome to TIL 2006, the 4th Workshop on Information and Language Technology. TIL is a forum dedicated to the integration of the diverse communities involved with human language and technology, such as Computer Science, Linguistics, Information Science, Electrical Engineering, Psycholinguistics, among others.

TIL 2006 was held as a satellite event to the International Joint Conference 2006 – IBERAMIA/SBIA/SBRN 2006, major events in Artificial Intelligence in the Ibero-American communities, - in Ribeirão Preto, on October 27-28, 2006.

Over the three previous editions TIL has been mostly concerned with boosting research involving Portuguese towards automatic processing of the language. This year, however, we have been successful in widening our reaches to Spanish and other related languages.

We are glad to say that this time we received a total of 53 submissions with authors from several countries (Argentina, Brazil, Denmark, Finland, France, UK, Italy, Mexico, Portugal, Spain, and USA). Out of these, 22 were accepted as full papers (about 40%) and 12 (about 20%) as posters, based on careful decision of the reviewers.

We would like to thank all those who contributed to the realization of the event, among them: the authors of submitted papers; the program committee members and reviewers; the workshop chair, Maria das Graças Volpe Nunes; the General Organizing Chairs to the International Joint Conference, Solange Oliveira Rezende and Antônio Carlos Roque da Silva Filho; and many other people who worked behind the scenes to advise and help us with organizing the event.
